Subusers
Giving somebody access to your server without handing over your account.
A subuser is somebody you let into your server with their own login and a limited set of permissions. Use it for co-owners, staff and anyone who needs the console but not your billing details.
Why not just share the password
Because your panel account is more than one server. It holds your billing information, your other services and your payment methods. Sharing it means sharing all of that, and there is no way to take it back other than changing the password — which also logs you out everywhere.
A subuser sees one server, only the parts you allow, and can be removed in a click.
Adding one
Open Subusers, enter the person's e-mail address and choose what they may do. They get an invitation and sign in with their own account.
Permissions are grouped by area, roughly matching the tabs:
- Console — read output, send commands, power the server on and off
- Files — browse, edit and upload, plus SFTP access
- Databases — create and view databases
- Backups — create and restore
- Schedules — manage automatic tasks
- Startup — change startup parameters
- Allocations — manage ports
Grant what the person actually needs. A moderator who runs commands in-game needs console and nothing else.
Permissions worth thinking about
Files is the powerful one. Anyone with file access can read every config on the server — including plugin files that may contain database passwords or API keys — and can delete the world.
Backups includes restoring, and restoring overwrites everything. Someone who can restore can also undo everybody else's work, deliberately or by accident.
Startup changes how the server boots. On some games that includes the world seed, which on a fresh start means a different map.
Removing access
Delete the subuser. Access ends immediately, including SFTP — their credentials stop working on the next connection.
Worth doing when someone leaves your team, even on good terms. Old access that nobody remembers is how servers get wiped months later.
If they cannot sign in
The invitation goes to the address you typed, so check it for typos first. They also need their own GameHost account — the invitation links to registration if they do not have one.
Access is per service. If you own several servers and want the same person on two of them, add them on each.
