Euro Truck Simulator 2

The server package file, matching DLC and mods, and why convoy servers are light.

Last updated: 2026-07-21

Everything in Your panel applies. These are the ETS2 specifics.

Startup parameters

That is all the panel exposes, because ETS2 does most of its configuration differently.

The server package file

This is the part that catches everyone out. An ETS2 dedicated server does not read a settings file you edit — it reads a server package generated from a copy of the game.

The flow is:

  1. In your own game, configure the session as you want it, with the DLC and mods you intend to use
  2. Generate the server package from the game
  3. Upload it through the file manager or SFTP

Any time you change your mod or DLC lineup, regenerate that file and upload it again, or the session will not match what players have.

Everyone needs the same DLC and mods

In practice, yes. Everyone driving together should own the same map DLC and run the same mods, otherwise joining tends to fail or behave oddly.

The simplest approach is to agree on one setup, share a Workshop collection for the mods, and build the server package from a game configured exactly that way. Keep the list short and stable — every change means everybody updates.

Memory

Plans start at 2 GB, and ETS2 is one of the lighter games we host. A convoy server relays positions rather than simulating a world, so it stays light even with a group.

Consider more headroom if you run several map DLCs together, add mods on top, or keep the session up permanently for a larger group.

Slots

You set the slot number yourself in the server config. ETS2 convoys are social rather than mass-multiplayer, so the practical numbers are small by design.
