Don't Starve Together
The cluster token, caves as a second world, Workshop mods and admin setup.
Everything in Your panel applies. These are the DST specifics.
The cluster token comes first
Don't Starve Together servers need a cluster token from your Klei account. Without one the server will not start at all, and this is the single most common reason a new DST server refuses to boot.
Generate it in your Klei account page, then paste it into Server Token in Startup parameters.
Startup parameters
- Server Token — the Klei cluster token
- Cluster Name and Description
- Game Mode — survival, wilderness, endless
- Max Players
Everything else — world generation settings, season lengths, resource regrowth — lives in the cluster configuration files, which you edit in the file manager.
Caves are a second world
This surprises people. In DST, caves run as a separate world process alongside the overworld. Enabling them roughly doubles what the server has to keep in memory.
If you are on a smaller plan, start with the overworld only and add caves once you know the world is one you want to keep.
Workshop mods
Mods are listed by their Workshop ID in the server's mod setup and configuration files, which you edit in the file manager. The server fetches them on start, so there is nothing to upload by hand.
Any mod settings normally toggled in-game are set in the same configuration file.
Mods the server requires are flagged to clients when they connect, so players are prompted to get them rather than hunting them down. Client-side mods — interface and quality-of-life — are each player's own choice and do not have to match.
Take a backup before adding a large mod to a world you care about; some change world generation or entities.
Admin
Add your Klei user ID to the server's admin list file, edited in the file manager. The same approach covers whitelist and ban lists. Once you are an admin you get the in-game admin commands.
Memory
Plans start at 2 GB. Add memory for caves, a heavy mod list, and a long-running world that has been built up over many seasons.
