Unturned

Workshop content, the Steam login token and how players get maps automatically.

Last updated: 2026-07-21

Everything in Your panel applies. These are the Unturned specifics.

Startup parameters

The token is optional for a private server but required if you want yours listed publicly in the internet browser. You generate it on Steam's game server account page; it is free and takes a minute.

Workshop content

Unturned pulls mods, maps and item packs from the Steam Workshop. You tell the server which ones to use by listing their Workshop IDs in the server's configuration files, edited in the file manager.

The server downloads them on the next start. Nothing to upload by hand.

Players usually do not need to install anything. Unturned is designed so that connecting clients are pointed at the Workshop content the server uses and download it on the way in. Large mod lists make that first connection slower, so warn people the first join may take a while.

Load order

Some content depends on other content — a map that uses a custom item pack needs that pack loaded first. If items appear missing or the map fails to load, the order in your configuration is the usual culprit.

Memory

Plans start at 3 GB, which suits a small group on a stock map. You will want more once the population grows, once you load a long list of Workshop mods, or once you move to a large custom map with a lot of saved structures.

Upgrading later is a plan change, not a rebuild, so starting modest is a reasonable way in.

Admin

Admin rights are granted through the server's configuration files, then used with the game's own commands. The console in the panel works too and is where you go if the game is unresponsive.
