Valheim
Passwords, crossplay, moving an existing world and how mods work.
Everything in Your panel applies to Valheim. These are the Valheim-specific parts.
Password is mandatory
Valheim requires a password on dedicated servers. It has to be at least five characters and different from the server name — the game refuses to start otherwise, which catches people out on the first boot.
Set it in Startup parameters under Server Password. The same tab holds the server name, the world name and whether the server is listed publicly.
Crossplay
There is an Enable Crossplay switch in Startup parameters. Turn it on if your group plays across PC and Xbox; leave it off for a PC-only group, as it slightly changes how players find and join the server.
Player limit
Valheim itself supports up to 10 players on a dedicated server. That ceiling comes from the game, not from us — no plan raises it.
Moving an existing world
Straightforward: upload your .db and .fwl files through the file manager or SFTP, restart, and everything you built is there. Characters stay on each player's own machine, so nobody loses progress.
Stop the server before uploading. Valheim keeps world files open while running and will overwrite what you send.
Mods
Valheim modding runs on BepInEx, which you install yourself — upload its files through the file manager or SFTP, restart, and after that mods are files you drop into the plugins folder.
Two things to expect:
Everyone needs the same mods. Most Valheim mods have to match on both sides; a player without them usually cannot connect at all.
Game updates break mods. After a Valheim patch, expect a few days of mods catching up. If your server stops working right after an update, that is almost always why.
Memory
Plans start at 4 GB, which is comfortable for a small group on a fresh world. Worlds grow as they are explored — a map that has been played for months, with large bases and many dropped items, uses noticeably more than a new one.
If your server gets slower over months rather than suddenly, that is world growth, and a larger plan is the fix.
Backups
Valheim writes the world on a timer and on shutdown. Stopping the server cleanly with Stop rather than Kill matters here more than in some games — a killed process can lose the minutes since the last save.
Take a manual backup before installing mods or letting a new group onto an established world.
