Rust

Wipes, map settings, Oxide and Carbon — the bits specific to a Rust server.

Last updated: 2026-07-21

Everything in Your panel applies to Rust. These are the parts that do not.

Map settings

Rust generates its map from a seed and a size, both set in Startup parameters:

Changing seed or size does not regenerate an existing map. Rust keeps the world it already made. To get a new one you also need to wipe — see below.

Wipes

Facepunch ships an update on the first Thursday of each month, which forces a map wipe on every Rust server. Beyond that, when to wipe is your decision.

Two ways to do it from the panel:

Delete the save files in the file manager — the map, and optionally the blueprint data if you want a full wipe rather than map-only.

Use the regeneration switch in Startup parameters, then reinstall the server. This gives a fresh seed as well as a fresh map.

Take a backup first if you want the option of going back.

Oxide and Carbon

Rust's plugin frameworks are not uploaded by hand — there is a Modding Framework field in Startup parameters that accepts vanilla, oxide or carbon. Set it, then reinstall the server and the framework is installed for you.

After that, plugins are ordinary files that go into the plugins folder over SFTP or the file manager.

Carbon runs most Oxide plugins unchanged, so switching between the two rarely means rebuilding your setup.

Memory

Rust is one of the heavier games we host. Plans start at 6 GB, which suits a small squad server on a 3000–3500 map. For a 4000–4500 map with an active community, 12–16 GB is the comfortable range.

Memory use grows through a wipe cycle as players build. A server that is fine on day one and struggling on day twenty is usually short of RAM, not misconfigured.

Players and moderation

There is no artificial slot limit from us — you set the maximum in the server configuration. The practical limit is your plan's memory and CPU.

Admin commands are the game's own, sent through the console or in-game once you are an admin. An RCON password is available in Startup parameters if you prefer an external tool.

Server browser

Your server appears in the community browser automatically once it is running and reachable. If it does not show up, check that it actually finished starting — map generation on a large world takes a while, and the server is not listed until it is done.
