FAQ / Questions & Answers

Our plans start at 4 GB, which is a sensible fit for a co-op group playing through the game together. Memory pressure grows with the number of players connected and with how long the world has been running, since every structure you build and every change to the terrain stays in the save. If your group builds heavily or you expect the world to survive months rather than weeks, take the next tier up.
The Forest has no official mod framework for dedicated servers, so this is not a game where you build a server around a mod list. Community mod tools exist, but they are unofficial and we cannot promise any particular one will work or keep working after a game update. You do get full file and FTP access, so if you want to experiment you are free to — just back up the save first.
Often, yes. A multiplayer world you were hosting from your own machine can usually be copied into the server's save folder through the file manager or FTP, so you carry on where you stopped. A single-player save is a different case and may not transfer cleanly, so treat it as worth attempting rather than certain. Always keep the original files and take a backup before overwriting anything on the server.
Yes. The server config lets you set the difficulty the world runs on, from a peaceful build-focused game through to the harshest survival setting, along with the server name, password and other basics. You edit that file in the panel and restart to apply it. Changing difficulty on a world that is already underway can behave unpredictably, so decide early where you can.
Yes. You get a live console in the panel for server commands, plus the file manager and FTP for every config and save file, manual backups within your plan's backup slots and scheduled restarts. Setting an admin password in the config also lets you moderate the session from inside the game.
Yes — that is the main reason to rent one rather than host from your own PC. The server runs 24/7 whether or not you are online, so anyone in your group can drop in whenever they like and the world is exactly as it was left. Nobody has to be the host, and nobody gets kicked when the host closes the game.
You choose your location when ordering: Falkenstein (Germany), Warsaw (Poland), London (UK) or Gravelines (France). Pick the one closest to you — the shorter the distance, the lower your ping.
Yes, and it costs nothing extra. Game Swaps are included in every plan: turn the same server into another supported game in one click, and each game keeps its own saved preset so nothing is lost when you swap back. Heavier games need more memory, so which titles you can run depends on the plan you pick — hover the info icon next to Game Swaps on any plan above to see how many that plan can run.
